The Urgent Call We Almost Missed: Why "Opening Your Eyes" is Our Next Spiritual Frontier
There are moments in life, unexpected and profound, that shift your entire perspective. Recently, I had one such experience, nestled in the most surprising of places: a gorgeous urban forest, a pocket of wild serenity thriving amidst an ordinary suburb. With a dear friend, I found myself enveloped in a world that felt miles away from the nearby playground and parking lot. Looking forward, it was pure forest – alive with the chatter of birds, a symphony of countless voices.
Before I delve deeper, it's vital to acknowledge that these insights are not mine alone. They are a tapestry woven from discussions with my dear friend, the wisdom whispered by the kookaburra, the chorus of the birds, the breath of nature itself, the experience of Umana Swaps, and the guiding hand of Spirit. We were co-creators in that sacred space, and it's crucial to honour the messages that come through from all these beautiful sources.
We weren't just observers; we were participants. The birds – so many different kinds – weren't just singing; they were communicating, desperately, it felt. Insight after insight flowed, and we knew, deep in our bones, that we were part of a sacred conversation. So much emerged from that day, discussions that unveiled profound understandings, illuminating a new way forward.
The Core Message: "Open Your Eyes"
But the most profound message from that day in the forest, a message I believe came through a magnificent kookaburra, was deceptively simple. Sadly, I can't recall the exact four or five words, perfectly spoken and incredibly powerful, which is frustrating. But the concept was crystal clear: Open your eyes.
When we do energy work, meditation, or any profound spiritual practice, what happens when we keep our eyes open? When we look around and truly connect with our surroundings? Everything changes. We see the world differently. This connection is vital.
"Open your eyes to advance in spirituality. Open your eyes to bridge the divine and the human."
This message came through so strongly and as I opened my eyes the kookaburra appeared, then, once we’d absorbed and discussed the message, we realised he was gone as swiftly as he’d arrived. The essence, however, remains crystal clear and it has stayed with me ever since..
Nature's Enthusiastic Embrace
This revelation unfolded while we were engaged in powerful energy work, something amplified exponentially by the embrace of nature. Nature is, undeniably, the most potent force on our planet, and it yearns to connect with us. We are a crucial piece of its intricate puzzle – the plant kingdom, animal kingdom, crystal kingdom, the oceans – every element is vital. For us to awaken to a level where we can contribute more effectively is a moment nature, especially the animal kingdom, seems to be eagerly awaiting.
I see it in the subtle signs: the nightly passage of a cat and a fox past my urban unit block, often disappearing without a trace, or the frequent visits of beautiful crows. These aren't mere coincidences. As I've learned through advanced energy courses, when spiritual work reaches a certain intensity, the birds recognize it. They flock, they call, they want to be involved. My experience in the forest echoed this – their presence was a response, a participation, layered with meanings far deeper than we initially grasped.
The Foundation: Fortifying Your Inner Core
Now, this "opening your eyes" isn't about skipping the crucial inner work. In fact, it builds upon it. It is important to first close your eyes, to go within and fortify your inner core. This foundational work – dealing with our inner wounds, connecting beautifully to the earth, establishing a very strong connection to both Source and the earth, expanding our hearts, and working on our earth star, heart, and soul star (something my friend and I were discussing as a current focus) – is absolutely crucial. This inner access is paramount because when you do open your eyes to the world, you are connecting with everything around you. Whatever your gaze takes in, there is an exchange.
If you truly take the time to slow down, you can feel, see, know, or sense this exchange. I'm looking at a beautiful peace lily right now; because I have a strong core, I have something to offer. Because I have a strong core, I can stand strong in this connection exchange. Without even consciously trying, I'm sending love because I appreciate its beauty, and it, in turn, sends energy back to me.

Beyond the Closed-Eye Sanctuary
The kookaburra who delivered that pivotal message – its presence was magnificent, awe-inspiring, radiating strength, sacredness, and an enormous divinity. It spoke with a wisdom that cut through the noise. And its message about opening our eyes... it’s something I struggle to convey with the same elegant impact.
When we do energy work, meditation, or any profound spiritual practice, what happens when we keep our eyes open? When we look around and truly connect with our surroundings? Everything changes. We see the world differently. This connection is vital.
One of the primary reasons for the disconnect between our human and spiritual selves is this very habit of closing our eyes. It’s hugely significant. When we close our eyes, we go inward, or we go upward, but often, we disconnect from what's around us. Imagine being in a brightly lit home but needing to see something only visible in darkness. You retreat to a windowless room and close the door. You can concentrate, yes, you can see in that specific darkness, but you're cut off from the light, from the broader environment.
Bridging Worlds, Expanding Awareness
Our next evolutionary task, as I understand it, is to learn to have all the doors open. To keep our eyes open, to go within, to go up and access the divine, guidance, and support, and to simultaneously look around at your environment, engaging with all of those things at once – this is a way to merge the two. This is simple to do for a brief moment, but incredibly challenging to sustain. The natural inclination, especially when the energy intensifies, is to close your eyes, to close that door.
But by practicing with our eyes open, we bring online extra abilities and skills. It takes time and practice for this to feel natural, but it is an absolutely beautiful process. You'll start with what's beautiful and easy, and nature has so much to offer here. Eventually, the goal is to maintain this state of open-eyed, multi-dimensional connection in the ordinary, the mundane – at the supermarket, in your kitchen, even in your exchanges with other humans, however pleasant or unpleasant. This is powerful.
Living by Example in Waking Times
This path of "opening your eyes" isn't something you have to do; you're not required. But it is available to us, and we are being guided to show the way how. I can only dream of how incredible it will be once we actually master it – what we'll be able to see and feel and know and do at all times. That is truly exciting.
We also must remember that many of us are still here after the Equinox because we are living by example. We are not necessarily leading the way in a hierarchical sense, but by living authentically, we offer a beacon and a way forward. It's a very confusing time for everybody; there's a lot going on in the world, a lot of uncertainty. To have individuals to look up to who are finding a way forward in sacredness, in divinity, who are following that path, living in harmony with nature, with inner peace and inner joy, and being truly connected to all and everything at once – this is leading by example. This is why many of us are still here. If you've asked, "I did all this work, now what's the purpose?" – things are coming through now for us to understand. A lot of it is in these waking times, not just meditative times. It's in the everyday, and that's what we should expect to feel moving forward, because this is what we need to embody. We need to embody the sacred, the unseen, nature, and connection in all times.
From Personal Encounter to Collective Awakening
That kookaburra was incredible – its presence was magnificent, awe-inspiring, carrying a strength, sacredness, divinity, and an enormousness that I have my own interpretations for. But many details of that day are private, for our personal evolution. More importantly, you don't need to be spoon-fed. True growth comes not from receiving all the answers, but from being given enough to ignite your own journey of discovery.
We are all sparks of light, yes, but unique sparks, each having traveled our own sacred journeys. How we receive, interpret, and express our divinity, our connection to Source, our communication styles – all of it is unique. However, the pathways now available to us, if we choose them, can share common starting points: genuinely accessing nature, the animal kingdom, what's naturally in our environment. Once we master this open-eyed connection with nature, and then extend it to the structures we've created, I believe we will be astounded by the power and depth we've been surrounded by, yet largely unaware of.
So, the message, distilled from a profound encounter, collaborative discussions, and a perfectly spoken phrase I can no longer grasp, remains: Open your eyes. It’s an invitation to see more, be more, and bridge the worlds within and around you. It’s time to see.
When I mention birds to people, everyone seems to have an experience. I would love to know what yours is. This is a time of sharing; the more we share our insights, the better we'll understand how to embody this beautiful opportunity available to us now. These insights are a combination of discussions from this special day–from what my friend shared, what I was receiving, what the birds communicated, what the experience of Umana Attunements revealed. It's crucial to honour the messages that come through from all sources and not claim them solely as our own.
